Aiding the Children of DoornbachtDoornbacht community is an informal settlement opposite DuNoon on Potsdam Road in Killarney Gardens, Cape Town, currently 10 000 people live there, the community was described by some as the “poorest and most needy” in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town. Over 200 children are schooled in the 3 local crèches.
The entire staff at Mac Brothers made a collective decision to help these people any way we could. We started by building a soup kitchen; providing prep tables, boiling tables and 50L pots. We provide vegetables and essential groceries on a weekly basis so that the little ones are able to have at least one hot meal per day. Every year the Mac Brothers Staff organize and raise funds for the Christmas party; Father Christmas hands out gifts to all the children, they have face painting done by our employees and bouncy castles to play on. It’s truly an amazing experience to see all of the delight on their faces. Our staff always return feeling humbled and with a sense of gratitude.
Doornbacht 2010 Christmas Party
Mac Brothers is a company that has a tradition of caring for the community and this year was no exception. The staff at Mac Brothers spent time with the community of Masikhululeke Upliftment Centre to spread some Christmas festive cheer. The creche kids enjoyed having their faces painted while their teachers encouraged them on in song. Festive hampers including colouring books, crayons and toys were distributed. A cricktet set was donated to the community and in no time, kids were having fun with their new found passion for this sport. One of the staff members donned a Santa suit and took photos with the children. The Staff at Mac Brothers had fun interacting with the kids and this was an oppurtunity to give back to the community. Mac Brothers shall continue with these activities as part of the Social Responsibility programme.
